LINC's Core Technology
The scientists at the Research and Education Institute at Harbor/UCLA (REI) have demonstrated that PTHrP can modulate lung fibrosis in in vitro and in vivo laboratory models. In addition, LINC’s data suggests that pathways down-stream of PTHrP hormone system (the PPAR-gamma system) are an integral part of the fibrosis cascade, providing several new targets for therapeutic intervention.
Based on the discoveries of the LINC’s scientific founders, the company intends to develop its technology in two complimentary product lines, including a PTHrP-based diagnostic product to accurately monitor the formation of pulmonary fibrosis, and therapeutic drugs based on PTHrP analogs (and PPAR agonists/antagonists) to inhibit fibrosis in lung tissues.
Advantages of the Technology
Advantages of the LINC technology include providing a new diagnostic capability to monitor early signs of lung damage associated with mechanical ventilation in neonates suffering from bronchopulmonary dysplasia, as well as in adults suffering from fibrotic lung disease. This diagnostic will also provide an important new tool which will allow health care providers to adjust ventilation systems to minimize undue stress on the lungs.
In addition, LINC will provide an effective therapeutic regimen for the treatment of progressive fibrotic lung disease that is currently not available.
