Emerging Markets and Market Upsides
LINC's plan focuses largely on the US market, although there are significant opportunities for anti-fibrotic technology outside of the US. The European market alone for lung care therapeutics is approximately 40% of the US market, representing an additional several billion dollars in market potential.
The Asian and European markets for lung care products present significant upsides for the LINC technology. For example, the incidence of emphysema in Japan is as high as 3% of the population over age 50, and most of these cases are associated with smoking. The incidence of fibrotic lung diseases is also growing in Europe, fueled in part by the large number of adults who have smoked for many years. In addition to these lung disorders, the LINC technology has applications in other disorders which have a fibrotic component. These include dermal conditions (keloids or other scarring of the skin), post-surgical adhesions, and possibly diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver.
